Rinnai uses Sealix® technology for a safe and efficient swimming pool heating solution
Rinnai uses SWEP’s Sealix® corrosion-resistant brazed plate heat exchanger technology to provide an extremely efficient swimming pool heating solution that increases the lifetime of the system.
SWEP’s Sealix range provides heating solution ensuring year-round training
Several sports require water, including swimming, water polo, diving, and water aerobics. Due to climate variation, many sports centers are looking for safe and efficient ways to heat water in the coldest periods. This allows athletes to continue to practice comfortably year-round, regardless of the season.
A 2,000 square meter (22,000 feet) sports complex located in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil contacted one of Rinnai's specialized dealers to guarantee comfort for the 1,100 students enrolled in water sports, even on the coldest days of the year. The objective of the project is to maintain a 190,000-liter (50,000-gallon) swimming pool at a temperature of approximately 30 °C (86°F).
Efficient pool heating solution that prolongs the lifetime of the system
Rinnai’s water heater heats the water with gas up to 60°C (140°F) in one of the circuits of a SWEP brazed plate heat exchanger. The colder water comes from the swimming pools and is heated up to 32°C (89.6°F), which is a standard operational condition for swimming pools. However, this pool is treated with granulated salt (NaCl) and contains chlorine. When the water is treated with this salt, high concentrations of chlorine are reached, and it is hazardous to copper and even stainless steel due to the high probability of corrosion.
To solve this issue, SWEP offered their Sealix® technology to bring more resistance to corrosion at a lower cost when compared to All-Stainless units. One SWEP SXE8LASx42 model has been installed and working for almost a year while showing no signs of corrosion. It is important to point out that before Sealix® technology was utilized in this application, the usual copper-brazed heat exchangers had to be replaced frequently. The SXE8LAS model combines Sealix® features with excellent heat transfer, offering increased durability and ROI for water applications.
Improved corrosion resistance with SWEP’s Sealix technology
SWEP’s Sealix® range is a revolutionary SiO₂-based thin-film technology that protects the surface of the heat exchanger and increases corrosion resistance. Sealix improves the surface behavior in terms of scaling, and maintains the high thermal and hydraulic performance of the brazed plate heat exchanger – and is well-suited for water-to-water applications.
